Lumberjocks Winter 2009 Woodworking Awards

Lumberjocks just announced the Winter 2009 Woodworking Awards. From the web site:

Here’s your chance to showcase your latest woodworking projects and vie for the title of “Best Overall LumberJock”. The rules are simple and, like everything else at LumberJocks, there’s no fee to enter. The best part of this competition? There will be no designated jury of experts. You and your fellow LumberJocks will cast the votes. This creates a truly democratic voting process from our exceptional woodworking community. (See below for information on the rules and point system.)

  1. A Knot Like No Other – It’s creativity time! Don’t let that big old knot get you down - incorporate it into a project, highlighting it’s beauty or uniqueness. You can knock out the wood (if there is some) and use just the hole or keep the wood intact and include it in your design. It’s time to get knotty with your woodworking. Be sure to describe how the knot inspired you.
  2. A Secret Compartment – Sshhh!! It will be just our little secret — where have you hidden that special storage compartment in your woodworking project? Whether you are building a box, a chair, or any other creation, use your design and woodworking skills to add a secret compartment that no one will find unless they know it is there! This project is all about the “secret”.

    Neil,
This is one that one will probably show us how they “pop”, and at the least-expected time…

About Me

My name is Al Navas, and I live in NW Missouri with my bride of many years. We are both woodworkers who love to be in the shop together, sharing wonderful times. She is a woodturner, and also carves and does pyrography. I do what many call flat work, which includes jewelry boxes to blanket chests; armoires to entertainment centers; church altars to prayer kneelers; custom cabinets to rustic furniture. In our spare time in the shop we make toys, bird houses, etc., for our granddaughters. In late 2007 we finished serving as officers for the St Joseph Woodworkers Guild.
