Hey Al, (in New York, we say YO!!!, but I thought I would be more civil.)
I hear that nicely jointed edges can be rubbed together with hot hide glue and not need any clamps. I’ll have to try it sometime.

Right – the hot hide glue (“trick”) works quite nicely with much shorter boards. But I would not want to try it on a glue up this size. I did think about doing it with the Titebond hide glue (liquid at room temp.), which does wonders – VERY long open time, and compatible with all finishes. But I decided for the clamps. Next time…
