We are mercifully feeling much better, and now can enjoy what remains of Summer. After antibiotics and plenty of bed rest, I slowly started helping with the deck build, by spraying sealer on the cedar decking boards. Of course, I am getting ahead by a mile.
First, we left off with the following view from the kitchen window — note the older, 2,000-square foot deck behind the swimming pool at ground level:
The old deck is now gone! It opened up the view to the South of the pool area — to snap this photo, I am now standing on the new extension deck just outside the kitchen sliding doors:
In this photo you look North from the sliding doors in the living room:
The new staircase will make it much easier to carry supplies to the deck surfaces:
One gets a sense that things are starting to shape up with the new deck installation — this is the new view from poolside:
In another article I will share a new project in the shop. Stay tuned!

Yahoo! Looking good man! So glad you guys responded well to the antibiotics. The deck is looking fantastic. The lower deck – now gone – looks good, too! Will you have stairs going down on that end of the deck to that area? And – the house is a different color, too. When I was there it was a light grey. Maybe that’s just the way I remember it……. but, anyway – great to see so much progress. Can’t wait to see it completed.

Thanks, C.!
Yes, at the South end, where the huge deck was, a new staircase to a new landing will take us via steps into the yard to the right, and another set of steps to the left into the newly cleared area. We will probably have a picnic area there – I will build a picnic table, or something similar.
Glad you are back on a roll again. Your new deck looks awesome……Hope to have the blog done on my shop expansion soon….. :=)
Thanks, Dave – I will be looking for the images of your shop expansion – can’t wait to see it all!
