We have a cleanup on our hands

The results of ninety-mile-an-hour winds in NW Missouri last night — we have a huge clean-up on our hands, but no damage that requires a visit by the insurance rep (photos taken with my phone camera, just as daylight broke):

Huge sycamore branch.

Felled branches during the storm

This felled sycamore branch is around 10 or 12 inches in diameter

The best I can tell, there is no damage to the house — I won’t be calling the insurance company this time. The cleanup will be extensive and time-consuming. We are lucky, as we lost power for only a fraction of a second twice or three times during the night; our daughter, two miles away, has been without power since 10 PM last night.

We send a huge Thank you! to everyone who has asked how we are.

  1. Al, my house was hit with baseball sized hail last week here north of Omaha. The adjuster is meeting with us today. We were not at the house, so I don’t know what it sounded like, but it must have been brutal. Some poor folks have been in the flood and now pounded by the hail.

It has been a rough summer for them.

Hi, John – It is great to hear from you, and to know you are doing OK. What a bummer about the roof, and other damage. I hope it all works out fine. The last time I saw hail that size was in Houston. WOW!

  2. Wow, I knew there were storms around KC, but I didn’t realize there was anything that severe. Glad you are ok.

Thanks, Luke. We are on the East end of what used to be Tornado Alley, so things can get rough when a mass of hot air meets the cooler air coming from the North, and from the mountains of Colorado to our West. This one was BAD.

Wow Al. Sorry to hear about that.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t find playing with wood using a chainsaw as much fun as with a table saw.

We has a storm go through here(East Knoxville, TN) area back on March 27. It had hail bigger than golf balls and I still don’t have the roof and siding fixed. With 10′s of thousand of properties damaged the insurance system grinds to a near halt.

The roofing, siding and other contractors were having a slow time until the storm hit. That was nearly five months ago and they are still are 4-6 weeks out if you want them to do something.

    Happy to hear you survived.

    Jim
