This past weekend I started a new project at the Google+ platform: The Google+ Woodworker List. I stated:
Why create something like this?
Why this list?
I would like to introduce to the Google+ community the woodworker, and the woodworker’s craft. In a nutshell, WHO are the members of the Google+ community who are woodworkers; do they make a living from woodworking, or are they amateurs who work wood for the love of wood and their tools; who are prominent woodworkers outside of Google+ that have played a significant role in pushing our enthusiasm for woodworking; tool makers in the current Renaissance in hand tool making.
The post contains a link to the Woodworker list I created and will curate. You can see it at http://www.group.as/woodworker/0/. I will be adding names to the list in the weeks ahead, to make it a comprehensive list of woodworkers working together to build a Community of Woodworkers at Google+.
I hope the woodworking community at Google+ will prosper. It holds a huge potential for replacing other social network sites. But bigger than this, it also could replace blogging as we know it today.
Are you interested?
I am not ready to stop publishing this blog. I will continue blogging here, because Google+ is still in its infancy, even though total membership is likely bigger than 30MM at this time. Please let me know if you are interested in joining Google+, and I will send you an invitation — joining at this time is by invitation only, as it is still in “Beta test”. Once I have used up all my invites (150 limit), we must use other Google+ members’ invites; I hope we can do it as a group.
Update: Today I highlighted the women woodworkers at Google+, at this link.
I hope to see you at Google+ soon!
Your turn
- What do you think of this Woodworker List project?
- Do you think it will it be helpful if you join Google+, to be able to start participating right away?
- Is Google+ a new site you already use, or would like to join?
- If you are already there, what do you like about it? What don’t you like?

This group you are forming using google+ sounds like it holds a lot of possibilties for creating an interactive community where woodworking information can be easily shared with other like-minded woodworkers. I’d love to be part of this group and what develops out of it. Thanks for sharing your love for woodworking through your blog.
Deb,
I sent you an invite – hope to see you at Google+ soon!
Great Al ! this is a good idea, your list is very long and I am very happy and proud of being there and being your friend thank you so much, you so kind as usual
Thank YOU, Julio! I hope you had a great vacation – and I hope to see you in the Woodworker community at Google+
Al,
This is a worthwhile venture and I would be interested in joining. I would be grateful to be invited.
Thanks in advance.
Bob
Thanks, Bob – I just sent you an invitation to join. Please let me know if it works well, or if it does not. If it does not work to let you in, I will contact one of the Community Managers to inform them, as yours is my first invite. From time to time they have suspended things for a bit, as their Teams get busy.
