#blogger #woodworker #woodworking #woodart #woodcraft

You will find Part 4 of The Bloggers series here.

I include the following reminders for the benefit of members who recently joined Google+:

If you are just starting on Google+:

Be sure to visit the Woodworker List, at http://www.group.as/woodworker/, to see who are the woodworkers in Google+ as of today. *If you are a woodworker, and you wish to have your name on the list, enter your Google+ ID in the space above the list, so I can approve your name and others will also add you to their Circles.

Reminder: I am going through my Woodworking Circle alphabetically. If I missed anyone, I apologize ahead of time. It will take several Parts to complete the list of Bloggers – as of today I am at the letter “L”.

If I don’t have you in my Woodworker Circle, I will likely miss you if you are a blogger. PLEASE, let me know. Also, it is most helpful if you have links to your blog(s) in your Profile on Google+.

Now to the bloggers featured today: Last time I arrived at the letter “L”

+Sheila Landry - Sheila is the author behind the blog Sheila Landry Designs – My Journey as a Scroll Saw Pattern Designer” at http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/scroll-saw-blog. A prolific writer, Sheila writes new articles almost every day, including most weekends! An author with great artistic breadth, Sheila also has a terrific store on her web site; fountain pens, rollerball pens and ballpoint pens (lathe work), plus note cards and art prints up to 11″ x 14″ with her beautiful art work art decorate the Items for Sale page of her web site. If that is not enough, Sheila is also Contributing Editor for Creative Woodworks and Crafts Magazine.

+Tim Lawson - Tim is a furniture maker; he also runs the Port Townsend School of Woodworking in Port Townsend, WA. From the blog at http://ptwoodschool.blogspot.com/: “We teach woodworking, furniture making, cabinet making, and traditional woodcrafts; we also offer courses on turning, finishing, carving.” How cool is that? You will find on the blog articles and lots of video about course, and the instructors who taught them. In addition, the web site for the school is a must-read if you are considering attending woodworking classes; you will find the web site athttp://www.ptwoodschool.com/Home.html.

+Mike Lehikoinen - Mike lives in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, and is the Owner of Antero’s Urban Wood Designs, “…offering custom furniture designs, home and personal accents with wood being the focus of each design.” Check out Mike’s beautiful turned pens and other items on his blog athttp://www.anterosurbanwooddesigns.com/blog. His Etsy shop is athttp://www.etsy.com/shop/Anterosurbanwood?ref=pr_shop. Gorgeous pens, Mike!

+Ben Lowery - Ben lives in Saratoga Springs, NY, and blogs at http://blowery.org/. His articles about the build of the Thickolson workbench are terrific, as he had to make decisions we all face, sooner or later, when using thick lumber. Thanks for the wonderful insight into the way YOU approach the craft, Ben!

+Scott Meek - Scott and his family moved to Ashville, South Carolina, earlier this year. You will his blog, Scott Meek Woodworks, at http://www.scottmeekwoodworks.com/. In March 2011 Scott launched a new program he calls The Sketchbook, at http://www.scottmeekwoodworks.com/the-sketchbook - through this program “…Subscribers have the privilege of seeing new pieces I create before anyone else, which means they also have the first chance to purchase the one they fall in love with!…” I love the wonderful hand planes you make, Scott – the wood you use is fantastic, and the design outstanding.

I will continue the series on The Bloggers in a few days. Thanks for reading! My thanks to the bloggers who share their craft with us!

Google+ Woodworker Update #6: The Bloggers – Part 4

The following is the most recent post I have on Google+ (many of us now call it g+), in case you cannot see the post there. If you follow this blog, you already know I started this series as a tool to help newcomers to Google+ find woodworking people on the new Google platform.

If you are interested in joining g+, let me know, and I will send you and invite.

Woodworker Update #6: The Bloggers – Part 4.

You will find Part 3 of The Bloggers series here.

Bloggers at Google+, Part 4.I include the following reminders for the benefit of members who recently joined Google+:

If you are just starting on Google+: Be sure to visit the Woodworker List, at *http://www.group.as/woodworker/, to see who are the woodworkers in Google+ as of today. *If you are a woodworker, and you wish to have your name on the list, enter your Google+ ID in the space above the list, so I can approve your name and others will also add you to their Circles.*

Now to the five bloggers featured today:

 - I will paraphrase from Vic’s Profile on Google+: Vic is an Energy Efficiency Consultant by day, but at night and on weekends he transforms into a woodworker; his blog is TumbleWood Creations, http://www.tumblewood.blogspot.com/. Although he won’t brag about his first project much, I will: Vic’s first furniture project was published in the August 2011 edition of Fine Woodworking magazine. You can see that wonderful first project, an amazing cradle creation, at the FineWoodworking.com photo Gallery. Make sure to click on the images, and enlarge them. Vic also loves hiking, photography and his dogs.

 - The Village Carpenter herself, Kari blogs at http://villagecarpenter.blogspot.com/. You first met Kari in the list of women woodworkers. Kari must multi-task, as she is also the Popular Woodworking Magazine
Editor for the Tricks of the Trade column, a task she has held since 2009. She also own her own graphics design company, Step One Design, Inc. Kari hope to”…build stuff till I die…” Kari, a bunch of us hope you will build stuff for a LONG time!

 - Tom blogs at Tom’s Workbench, http://tomsworkbench.com/, and also writes a column for WOOD Magazine, . He claims: “…I am the only trained shop monkey I am aware of…” Of course, Tom and Kari (above) also participate in the Wood Talk Radio Show. By day, and during “weather events”, Tom has the important role of Emergency Manager for Pinellas County Government, Florida.
 - I admit it, and I apologize to Adam ahead of time. Adam, I have not been diligent keeping up with your recent, *enchanting* (to borrow  ’s word) and fascinating (NEW) blog, Adam King, at http://www.adamking.me/. But I can share this much about it: Adam, your paper on Depression Cure for Artists is outstanding!!! For readers who have never followed Adam’s blog, The Woodworker’s Journey at http://www.woodworkersjourney.com/, you can track the change in Adam from woodworker to to coach, as he grew into an individual working to help others be successful in their woodworking *business*. I witnessed the change as I read his old blog; and I met Adam at Woodworking in America in Cincinnati – I am very glad I did!

 - Bartee blogs at My Saw / Custom Woodworking, http://mysaw.com/blog/. In addition to woodworking, Bartee also is involved in the Christian ministries Souly Business and Celebrate Recovery. Please look at his Profile for the links to the ministries. Bartee, my hat’s off to you for doing this important work!

That’s it for today. I will continue the series on The Bloggers in the next few days. Thanks for reading – I hope you enjoy meeting your woodworking bloggers, who give so much of themselves, including techniques kept secret for centuries… ;-)

Google+ bloggers, Part 4.

A woodworker series of articles at Google+

Using social networks appears to have become much easier, safer, and more secure than ever now that Google+  is here. To many of us it is now called g+ for short.

To make it easy for new woodworkers joining Google+, I have started writing a series. You will find my most recent article below. It is my latest installment on The Bloggers at g+. Please note the use of hash tags on the header; in a manner similar to Twitter, these are used to make it easier to search in the future on the words identified my the hash marks. Also, in g+ the convention is that a person’s name preceded by the “plus” sign automatically links to that person’s Profile; however, the links in the boxes containing the person’s name is disabled. You will be able to click them in the original article on g+.

I hope you will find the time to join Google+. It is something new; it is growing daily; and it IS different from any other social network created in the past. If you would to receive an invitation to join, please let me know. As it is still in Beta test mode, an invitation to join is required.

You will find Part 2 of The Bloggers series at https://plus.google.com/109172813571934524948/posts/cNtuLQ6qVrB

I include the following reminders for the benefit of members who recently joined Google+:

*If you are just starting on Google+:* Be sure to visit the Woodworker List, at http://www.group.as/woodworker/, to see who are the woodworkers in Google+ as of today. If you are a woodworker, and you wish to have your name on the list, enter your Google+ ID in the space above the list.

*Reminder:* I am going through my Woodworking Circle alphabetically. If I missed anyone, I apologize ahead of time. It will take several Parts to complete the list of Bloggers. If I don’t have you in my Woodworker Circle, I will likely miss you if you are a blogger. PLEASE, let me know.

 - David blogs as the Seattle Home Improvement Examiner, writing for Examiner.com at http://www.examiner.com/home-improvement-in-seattle/david-getts. From his Examiner.com Profile: “…He is a Certified Kitchen Designer, teacher, and freelance writer. He can be reached through his website at: www.davidgettsdesign.com.”

 - A member of the Google Consumer Operations Community Team, Toshen also writes about our craft. He makes Shoji lamps – beautiful, delicate lamps. Please be sure to read his Crafting section at the blog Contentment by Design, http://www.toshen.com/index.htm. You will find the section on “Shoji lamps and side journeys” at http://www.toshen.com/shoji-lamps.htm. In his section “http://www.toshen.com/woodworking-reviews01.htm“, Toshen includes “reviews of some woodworking tools.”

 - Matt writes his blog, UpperCut Woodworks, at http://uppercutwoodworks.com/uppercut-woodworks-blog/. He also includes video in his podcast. Be sure to look at his Projects Gallery showcase, at http://uppercutwoodworks.com/uppercut-woodworks-projects/. I first met Matt at a recent Woodworking in America conference. Thanks for all your kind words, Matt!

 - Dave blogs at http://creatingsawdust.com/. He has co-authored two woodworking books, and is also “…co-owner of 2UES Production Partners LLC. (The company that produces the “Woodworkers Edge” projects specific and techniques DVD series.) Where I operated as the director, co-producer, technical adviser, marketer, web guy and all around tech-geek for the company.” We can expect more books from Dave; he is currently working on his own book, ““The Furniture Of Thomas Jefferson”.

 - Paul started blogging recently about his work as a Reproduction Furniture/Custom Cabinet Maker, at http://www.hanleyamericanfurniture.com/. Paul is recovering from injury, and blogging as part of the healing process. Paul, I wish you a quick recovery, and look forward to your work – but ONLY after you get well!

 - Blogging at Just Square Enough, http://www.justsquareenough.com, David is a “Software Developer by day, and a woodworker by night.” The sub-title of his blog reminds me of where we find ourselves much of the time: “Woodworking Through Trial and Success”.

 - Mark blogs at Gunpowder Woodworks, http://www.gunpowderwoodworks.com/. “Building hand crafted custom 18th century inspired furniture is my passion.” It certainly is! It is amazing that nn airline pilot with many, many duties, finds the time to make beautiful things – and Mark does. He recently posted about his office remodel on Google+: https://plus.google.com/112913250095361952430/posts/e1Fk85im29v. Upteen drawers, and gorgeous office space! Mark entered his work at Fine Home Building magazine’s “Design Contest: Home Office”. Well done, Mark!

 - Ron is the Owner of Hock Tools (www.hocktools.com), and also blogs at The Sharpening Blog, http://hocktools.wordpress.com/. He is the author of The Perfect Edge, an authoritative book on steel, metallurgy, sharpening and more for the woodworker and anyone interested in steels. His company makes premium replacement blades for vintage hand planes – I replaced some on my Stanley planes, and they perform possibly even better than new!

This is it for today. I will continue the series on The Bloggers in the next few days. Thanks for reading – I hope you enjoy meeting your woodworking bloggers!
