Wow I’ve been working on this belt grinder on and off for a year…well I’m about to get it finished. I’ll post pictures.

Gary, Glad they got you all sorted out! Carter has truly terrific support people. I must talk to them, to see if they are interested in giving discounts to Sandal Woods Members and readers. Dump the stock blade and get the Resaw King from Laguna, for the big work. For that class of band saw [...]

Well, I have yet another recommendation from Jeff at Carter, with whom I’ve been communicating. His recommendation is the CTR4 stabilizer combined with the 348 offset stud. He also sent me the engineering drawings for both the JET1 and the CTR4. It does look to me as though the combination of the CTR4 and the [...]

Yeah, I don’t see any reason to buy their conversion kit. And you’re exactly right that the critical issue is the offset from the holder to the blade. That’s what concerns me about the Jet1 recommendation since the blade aligns just outside the vertical tangent to the 20mm stud on the RIGHT side (as you [...]

I’ve recently acquired a Grizzly G0636X “Ultimate” 17″ saw and am trying to figure out what Carter stabilizer to put on it. The Grizzly people have no clue, and the Carter people have told me that a Jet1 should be what I need. But I’m a little skeptical and just want to be sure before [...]

Gary, I called Carter, and spoke with Christina. She stated that the Jet1 is NOT the model to get. This is the info she provided: Stabilizer for the band saw: Carter’s CTR-5 Offset Bracket: GRI U1, U2, U3 (these are a part of the Carter Conversion Kit) It might be best to call them back, [...]

Gary, I don’t see the specific model I got from Carter – in fact, I went through 3 different iterations as I tried to fit the stabilizer to my 17-inch Grizzly. However, the best fit today seems to be either their CTR1 for 14- to 18-inch band saws ( http://www.carterproducts.com/product.asp?product_id=28&cat_id=14 ), or their GRI1, for [...]

I’m building a new belt grinder for some of my tool making. It will have a 2 x 72” sanding belt, driven by a 2hp motor and all kinds of attachments. If anyone has a resourse for wiring up VFD’s and 3ph motors to Single phase I would really appreciate it. I have a single ph 2 hp 3450rpm motor I’m putting on the grinder but in the future I want a variable speed and the above set up seems to be the most cost effective. I’ll post pictures as I go along.

    You are welcome!

My blade is 3 tpi. I am not sure if that is the only tpi for this blade. But for resawing, you want the least number of teeth, to allow the saw dust to be carried in the gullets. This becomes especially important when resawing wider boards.

Terrific, hoody! The blade is terrific – and it can be sharpened, too, which is a huge plus for a premium blade. But, with typical care, it should last quite a while before re-sharpening is needed. You might want to check with Tim to see if the sharpening is done in the U.S., or whether [...]

Thanks, Al, but with the amount of re-sawing that I intend to do, this blade will probably last my lifetime..!

All I have to decide is the tpi. The one in their video was a 3 tpi, I believe. What is yours, Al..? Or do they only come in 3 tpi..?

hoody, On SMC, the deal normally is that he will sell a blade for either $70 or $80, regardless the length. Through my web site, clicking on the Laguna Tools icon in the Sponsors block takes you to the Laguna web site. You get 25% off the total price. That still would make the blade [...]

WOW! I just checked out the Laguna Resaw King carbide blade on the video links you posted, Al..! That is just unbelieveable smoothness! And fast cutting too! I’ll definately have to upgrade. I’m not using my bandsaw to its full potential because of the crappy blade it came with. I’ll check out the local carbide [...]
